Howard T. Steward

Howard T. Steward was born on December 7, 1957 to his parents Helen and Edward Steward, Sr. He had to spend the first few years of his life in the hospital because of a rare bladder condition. He and his many brothers and sisters lived in the projects on 40th and State. They all attended Hardigan Elementary School in their early years. As the family grew they needed more space and moved to Honore Street in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood.

Howard and his family then attended Harper High School, right on Honore Street. During Howard’s high school years, he was introduced to Carolyn Evans and they wed in 1980. However, this bond would not last as they separated a few years later. Howard worked many jobs during his life from butcher to mechanic, cleaning, landscaping, nursing home employee, bakery employee and finally he spent his last years as a Temple Care Leader.

Even though he suffered a myriad of different medical ailments, hospitalizations and dialysis, there was nothing that Howard couldn’t do. During the Summer of 1995, Howard met Lisa and they spent 23 years together rearing a family and raising a son, Howardlee, trying to provide him a better life than Howard began with. Howard loved what he did and how he always lived worshipping the Lord, attending church all his life, eventually finding the Lighthouse Church and settling down there with his family. Howard is proceeded in death by his father, Edward, Sr., sister Shirley, sister Roberta, half-brother Edward III, and ex-wife Carolyn.

Howard is survived by his son Howardlee, his life partner Lisa, his mother Helen and his brothers and sisters, Rosella, (Popcorn), Edward, Jr., Eddie, DeWayne (June), Steve, Jeanette, Eugene (Margie), Harlee (May), Scott, Delois and a very special niece Monique “Boonie” Steward, all his cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Howard suffered a failure of his respiratory system and a cardiac arrest on May 15, 2018, and died on June 2nd, 2018 due to complications from those events.
