Louis Ray Smith was born on September 2, 1960 in Batesville, Mississippi to Charlie Ray Smith and Willeva Madlock Smith Washington. Louis Ray attended Batesville Elementary and South Panola High School. He worked for Batesville Casket Co. for 10 plus years. Louis Ray relocated to Chicago where he worked at Jewel and Dominick's warehouses. He met and married his first wife, Sofia Crawford who shared a brief union. He later met and married Sheila Bryant. During this union they shared five children. Later in life he met and married Gerice King. Louis Ray departed this life on June 5th, 2017 at Mount Sinai Hospital at 9:12 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father Charlie Ray Smith and step­father Bennie C. Washington, grandparents Jesse B. Madlock and Hattie Madlock. He leaves to cherish his mother, Willeva Washington; 9 children, Zakiya Corner, David Bryant (Sheneice), Kimberly Smith, Louis Jr., Judas Smith, Amber Smith, Tony Powell (Gabrielle), Tamekia Powell and Dominique Smith Jackson; 16 grandchildren, 8 siblings Robert Madlock, Christopher Smith, Aaliyah Ford, Benard Washington, Darlene Lockett (Wayne), Bennie Washington (Danielle), Darnell Washington and Sandra Washington. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
