Allen E. Miller

ALLEN EARL MILLER was born January 30, 1934 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the late Earnest and Lillian (Carey) Miller. Allen, affectionately called “UNCLE BUBBA” was the fourth of five children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Jewel, Ernest, Elizabeth and Bobby.

Allen loved God and accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at King Solomon Baptist Church in Yazoo City, Mississippi. As a teenager, Allen demonstrated his love for Christ by serving faithfully as a Junior Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.

Allen’s formal education began at Yazoo No.2 Elementary School, and Yazoo Training High School. In 1955, he was awarded an athletic scholarship and attended Mississippi Valley State University. He received his B.S. Degree in Physical Education in 1959. He also attended Governors State and Chicago State University. Allen later received a Master of Science Degree in Administration.

On August 15, 1959, Allen married his childhood sweetheart, Marjorie and relocated to Maywood, Illinois.  To this union two sons were born, Anthony Charles, who preceded him in death, and Edward C. Miller.

In 1959, Allen and Marjorie joined Canaan A.M.E Church under the pastorate of the Late Rev. John W. James. Allen was appointed to the Board of Stewards by Pastor J.E. Foster and served faithfully in that position for over 28 years. He was appointed by Rev. Blaine Ramsey, as chairman of the Finance Committee and served for over 15 years. He also was a member of the Laymen’s Organization. Allen was a devoted and a committed member of Canaan A.M.E Church and served in all areas as a loyal and virtuous man of God.
In 1962, Allen began his career at the Boys Club in Maywood. He later became an educator, special needs and physical education teacher at Mason Elementary in Chicago, Illinois for over 37 years. During this time, Allen also served as a basketball coach and led the team to several championships. After retiring from Mason Elementary School in 1999, he also held the position as Physical Education Teacher at Christ Lutheran School.

Allen loved to play golf, bicycling, fishing and was an avid sports fan. He was a true, loyal Lakers fan and enjoyed watching the games with his family.  He especially loved to travel and spend time with this grandchildren. Allen was a very loving and caring husband to his wife for over 58 years.

ALLEN EARL MILLER departed this life on Friday, December 15, 2017. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and dedicated wife, Marjorie; son, Edward(Sonja); six grandchildren, Marcus, Kailen, Leah, Nicholas, Amir and Amya; two great-grandchildren, Khloe and Marcus II; sister-in-law’s, Margaret (Cleophus), Millie Miller, Jan Miller; brother-in law, Gus Washington,  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all whom he loved dearly in his own special way; Godchildren, Trina Carter, Marlo Clemons and Katrina Williams.
