Alma Calloway

May 2, 1941 — June 23, 2024

Alma Calloway was born May 2, 1941, in Jackson, Mississippi to Alvin Pratt, Sr. and Lula Bell Pratt, who preceded her in death. Alma was the youngest daughter of this union.

Alma was educated in the Mississippi school system and moved to Chicago thereafter. Alma worked at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center and retired after 41 years of employment. Alma went to work every day with the spirit of helping others. Alma was known for her infectious personality and took pride in her responsibilities.

On April 16, 1969, Alma united in holy matrimony with Norman Lee Calloway, who preceded her in death. To this beautiful union they welcome one child.

Alma accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Maywood, IL. Alma enjoyed having fellowship with the members. Alma had the privilege of becoming the Godparent to Michael and Melody Caldwell and she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them.

Alma believed, “You work hard, you play hard!” Alma was known for hosting fun and spicy house parties. These parties were a production filled with lively music, an abundance of food and lots of fun. Family would travel from out of town to attend these parties. Alma was a connoisseur of the Blues and did not pass up the opportunity to dance, snap her fingers and sing to the music. Alma was also known for her tasty Sweet Potato Pies. During the holidays, Alma would bake many pies to give to family and friends.

On Sunday, June 23, 2024, God called Alma home and she made a peaceful transition with her family by her side. Alma joined her beloved Norman, family and friends in God’s Garden.

Alma leaves to celebrate her life, a devoted daughter Shantel (Larry) “Big Guy” Fisher and her beloved granddaughter, Leah. Alma also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and longtime friends.
