Anthony Luther Barnes

February 25, 1961 — December 19, 2016

Anthony Luther Barnes was born February 25, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of the late James Luther Barnes and Loy McGlown Barnes.  In their union, 10 children were born: Larry, Michael, Pamela, Douglas, Renease, Dennis, Anthony, Marvin and David. James and Larry preceded him in death.

Anthony received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Solid Rock Church of the Living God where he was mentored by our cousin, Pastor Preston L. Raper Sr.

Anthony graduated from Austin High in 1979.  After high school he enlisted in the US Army and continued his career in the Army Reserves. Tony was honorably discharged.

He was united in matrimony to Delores McCurdy on March 26, 1995.  To their union he became a father to Delores’ daughters; Melody and Queennett and loved them as if they were his own.

Anthony loved to cook and attended cooking school for a time. He later went on to work at several restaurants which is how he received the name; "Burger Chef".  Anthony was always making up some concoction for us to try, which were usually good. More than once he'd be asked what's in it and he would only say; "I decided to clean out the fridge." He was known for his made-up soups and his spinach lasagna.  He always made big portions because he liked to share. Oh yeah, he never attended a family function without his Tupperware.

Anthony’s longest career was with Iron Mountain Corporation in which he was employed for over 20 years.  At the time of his passing Anthony was a member of the maintenance team at the Carole Robertson Center for Learning.

Anthony took homecare courses so that he could become the primary care giver to our father “Pops” until his passing on April 22, 2014. What can be said about Anthony……As stated before, he loved to cook but if we could think of two words to describe him, they would be "good heart".
