Betty Jean Hill

Betty was born February 7, 1955 to Sip and Marie Martin in Matteson, Mississippi. Betty was the baby of the family. Both parents proceeded her in death.

Betty grew up in Mattson and Clarksdale, Mississippi. Betty confessed in Christ at an early age in Mississippi. Betty meet and married Tom Hill and later they relocated to Chicago Illinois. Betty became a member of Rose of Sharon MBC under the leadership of the late Rev. James Murphy and was a choir member. Betty later became a member of The Old Ship of Zion MBC under the leadership of the late Rev. Joel Currington as a choir member and President. Later until her passing Betty was a member of The MountainTop MBC under the leadership of Pastors Felix Martin, Christopher K. Martin, Sr. and currently Pastor Kenneth D. Martin Jr. for over 20 years and served on the usher board and as President of the Pastors Aid Committee.

Betty worked at the law firm of Mayer Brown LLC for 25 years until she retired.

Betty had a loving, caring, kindness spirit and loved her family, friend and others. Betty loved being outdoors, cooking, shopping, going to the Spa and was always on the go. She loved to take pictures, “pull out a camera or phone and she was striking a pose.” Betty had nicknames as BJ, Betty Boo and Happy Nappy. Betty was the heart of our family — wise, loving, and never short on opinions; she was absolutely certain she was correct. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, well-fed, and slightly guilted into taking leftovers. Her laughter, stories, and stubborn streak will be deeply missed, but her love will stay with us always. Betty would always let you know and say, “I Love You More.”

On Sunday, January 4, 2026, God Called his child home. Betty was proceeded in death by her mother, father, one brother (RS) and four sisters (Susie, Idella, Roxie Anne and Rachel). She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Carolyn (Roy) Wembley; one son Terrell; 28 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters Wilma (Greenville,Mississippi) and Fannie (Chicago Illinois); one brother Willie James (Clarksdale, Mississippi; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Three special nieces Mae, Rita and Maryann
