Celebrating the life of Charles Gaston Sr.
Charles Gaston Sr. was born on August 11, 1937, in Itta Bena, Mississippi to James and Carrie Mae Gaston. Charles was the third of twelve children. Charles was preceded in death by his loving parents, James, and Carrie Gaston; Three brothers; James, William, and David Gaston; One sister Will Ella Gaston, and one stepdaughter Shelia L. Martin.
Charles confessed to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Zion Rock M.B. Church under the pastorate of or Rev. M.C. Tardy.
Later in Charles’ life, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he was employed at Vallera Construction until his retirement in 1999.
Charles met the love of his life Beverly, in August 1983. Their courtship lasted for over eighteen years, until uniting in holy matrimony on April 14, 2001, in Chicago, Illinois.
Charles joined Harvey Memorial Community Church under the leadership of Bishop Tellas, followed by Pastor Darrow Andrews, where he was an active member of the Senior Usher Board and the Prime-Time Auxiliary Committee. After serving at Harvey Memorial Community Church for several years, Charles joined St. James Starlight Missionary Baptist church in 2017, under the pastorate of Rev. C.B. Bradford Sr.
Charles enjoyed listening to the blues, playing his guitar, and cooking. Charles was most famous for his Peach Cobbler, which was often requested from family and friends. Charles touched everyone who met him and had a kind and generous heart.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of twenty-two years Beverly; two daughters; Linda and Laura Gaston of Rantoul, Illinois; two stepdaughters Vicky McCullum (Charles), of Chicago Illinois; Susan Fuller of Indianapolis IN; three sons; Charles Gaston Jr. (Amanda), Leon Gaston (Bonnie), both of Danville, Illinois; Curtis Gaston of Rantoul Illinois. Three brothers Tommie Lee Gaston (Mary) of Itta Bena, Mississippi; Thomas Earl Gaston of Milwaukee, WI, Calvin Gaston (Albirdia) of Chicago Illinois. Four sisters; his twin Charlene Kirkland of Chicago Illinois, Rosalee Howard; of Moorhead Mississippi, Rutha Mae Williams, of Chicago, Illinois; and Carrie Mae Gaston, of Milwaukee, WI. Charles also leaves to cherish his memory, Twenty-one grandchildren, Fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
