Evangelist Cynthia Bowen went to her heavenly home on November 15, 2023. She was born on September 25, 1952 to the late Willie Louis and Mary Jackson from Warm Springs, Georgia. She gave her life to the Lord as a young woman in 1972. She met the love of her life freshman year at Waller High School in Chicago. Cynthia and Madison Bowen were married for 49 years and produced 3 offspring. Since that time she has worked fervently in the church in many capacities. Her love and patience for young people gave her the opportunity to work as the local Sunshine Band Big Sister and Children’s Sunday School Teacher. For many years Evangelist Bowen has been a strong advocate for the church Building Fund. She spearheaded many fruitful projects such as the Bake Sale, Pancake Breakfast, Clothes Drive and Annual Building Fund Banquet. From all of her hard work the Lord continuously elevated her to many positions in the church. She held office as the Local Church Missionary, District Chairlady and State Purity Lady. Evangelist Bowen was recently appointed National Prayer Warrior at the 115th COGIC International Holy Convocation August 2023 in Durham, North Carolina.
Her concerns about the plight of the nation, led Evangelist Bowen to write a letter to President Biden in 2021. She was delighted to receive a written response from the White House in December of that year. Since 2021, led by the Holy Spirit, she organized and spearheaded a weekly Call to Prayer for the nation with women of God faithfully praying in over 17 states, with the goal of reaching all 50. Evangelist Bowen was instrumental in helping her husband Bishop Madison Byron Bowen start New Holy Zion COGIC in 2000 where she served as First Lady and Administrator. Throughout the years Evangelist Bowen has been a strong soul winner, witnessing to anyone, anywhere, and whenever, given the opportunity.
She sadly leaves behind to mourn her loss, husband Bishop Madison Byron Bowen; children Cerene Streeter, Melanie Bowen, and Madison Byron Von Bowen; goddaughter Jennifer Rakestraw; son-in-law Jamal Streeter; sister Adjoa Jackson Burrowes; brothers Don, Keith and David Jackson; grandsons Josiah Jamaal Streeter and Maddox Bryson Bowen; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and loved one
