Elizabeth Delaney was born in Helena, Arkansas on May 6, 1927, to Mose and Lillie Jackson who both preceded her in death. She was the first born child of this union. Having 13 siblings, she always took charge and was known as being “the boss”. As she was affectionately called “Sis” or “Liz”, she took pride in letting you know that she was raised on a farm and picked cotton for fifty-cents a day. Raised with love and loyalty, the family attended Point Pleasant Baptist Church in the country town of Westover, Arkansas where she accepted Christ as her personal savior.Elizabeth and some of her siblings moved to Chicago in 1945 and shortly thereafter they settled in Summit (Argo), IL. Her work career included positions at Cinch Manufacturing Co. and Chicago Public School.
Heeding the instructions of a devoutly religious mother, she joined Antioch Baptist Church in Argo, IL under the leadership of Rev. Henry Blackwell where she was a choir member for over 30 years. In the late 1970‘s she joined United Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Wilson Daniels and was a faithful member. While serving on the Nurses Board and a devout member of Sunday School Class #9, she was a faithful member until her health began to fail.
All that knew her admired her classy style of dressing, culinary skills, gift of gab and hospitality. Acting as a role model, she enjoyed mentoring young women.
