Enid Bernice Thomas, (Nee Furze) was born in Kingston, Jamaica on October 31, 1943 to Timothy Furze. And graduated from the Covenant of Mercy Academy Alpha School. She emigrated from Jamaica to the United States in 1966, and began making Chicago, Illinois her new home.
Enid met Johnnie Thomas Jr., and the two were married in December of 1967; a union that produce two sons, Johnnie III, born in 1968 and Daryl born in 1972. Enid was employed by Kraft Foods where she worked in several positions including packing and as a machine operator. She was a tireless employee for 30 years until her retirement from Kraft in 2003. Enid’s love for the Lord was strong and evident in all that she did, through her giving heart, her love for others, and her willingness to always go above and beyond for those in need.
Maintaining her spiritual church connection was very important to Enid and upon her move to the US, she quickly became a parishioner at Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church, a church that was a part of her life for over 30 years. Before her passing, Enid was a member of The Salvation Army Midway Citadel, a church family that believes and carries out the mission of doing good to all people; a mission that was near and dear to Enid’s heart.
Enid Bernice Thomas is preceded in death by her parents; She leaves behind her sons, Johnnie and Daryl, her two granddaughters Kyla and Kyanna, her two grandsons, Daryl and Dillon; sisters and brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, close friends and neighbors. Enid was Blessed to have three best friends for over 40 years, who became her “sisters through life”; Ruby Constantine (Chicago), Bettie Bass (Atlanta) and Kay Harris (Chicago).
