Gail Campbell lived a vibrant life filled with love, kindness, and joy. She touched many hearts
and will be deeply missed. Her spirit will forever inspire those who knew her.
Born on February 6, 1955, in Miami, Florida, to Yvonne Pittman and Robert Smith, Gail was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Halle Belle Pittman and T.B. Pittman. Education was deeply important to her, and she pursued her goals with determination. She graduated from Kilmichael High School in Mississippi with straight A’s and proudly served as a cheerleader. She later earned her associate’s degree from Mississippi State.
In 1974 Gail moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for many years as an office manager at Warren Clinic. Her walk with Christ continued to flourish, and she became a faithful member of United Baptist Church. She was active in the choir, church plays, Bible class, and Sunday school—always serving with a joyful heart.
Gail was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Nothing meant more to her than her family. She enjoyed writing poetry, sewing, cooking, reading, and especially shopping. Above all, she loved God.
Gail walked her journey with unwavering faith, grace, and compassion. Even in sickness, she greeted others with a smile and a giving spirit. She taught her children to put God first and to persevere through every challenge.
Sadly, on January 27th, 2026, God called his loyal servant home. She precedes in death mother Yvonne Pittman, father Robert Smith, grandmother Halle Bell Pittman, grandfather TB Pittman and longtime companion Sellus Hill.
She leaves behind children: William T. Campbell (Mae Campbell) and Tiffany Campbell. Grandchildren: Brianna Campbell, Jaden Campbell, Ari Campbell, Elyse Campbell and Takai Campbell. Children’s Father: William Campbell (Ann Campbell). Sisters: Cheryl, Travistine, Penelope, Darlene, Sandra, Carol, Angela and Tiffany. God children James Shelton, Jamar Booker and Carmen Murray. Best friend Denise Ervin. Special niece Natasha Daniels. Sister keepers: Delinda Daniels, Cynthia Daniels, Bertha Campbell, Pauline Henry, Lisa Givens, Marilyn Shelton, Mary Daniels, Lorraine, Mary Dobbs, Delresa and Peggie Hughes. Caregivers: Cherisha Johnson and Jeremy Malone. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers, uncles, friends and grand dog “Loomy”. Gail’s faith, resilience, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Tribute to my amazing mother
