In Celebration of The Good King George

George Bernard Allen was born, January 12, 1970, the second of three children born into the union of Linda Jean Oliver Allen and Norman Gerald Allen. Born severely asthmatic, George came into this world fighting for the life he'd been given.

Spending most of his childhood between Harvey and Park Forest, Illinois, there were many distractions that caught George's attention. In an effort to keep his sons focused, their father equipped them with lawnmowers and rakes in the summertime and snow shovels in winter, encouraging them to make their own money. That only did so much.

George became dangerously independent by age 12. As a grown-up, he made no excuses for the poor choices in his life and the consequences that he had to accept. He often spoke to the youth, using his own life as an example, encouraging them to make better choices than he did. His honest, direct, and often harsh approach was respected and well received by teens and young adults.

When he was a young adult himself, George married Brenda Moore. To that union, two children were born: Martian and Tiyanna. George was incarcerated when the children were very young.  Brenda and George divorced shortly thereafter.

George served his entire sentence, and afterward, he did everything he could imagine to be present for the people in his life.  He looked after his grandchildren and tended to his dying mother until her passing.

After that, he went to Restoration Ministries to work through the trauma of his life. He was going through their program when he met Janee Smith, who was working at a partner ministry called PASS, where he attended their Hope and Healing program. No one, not the interns nor the staff, could ignore the instant connection between them.   Three years later, they were married.

George did his best to care for everything and everybody. He looked after the sick and the elderly, admonished the young, spoke caution and wisdom to the married and “mad cash” to everyone in between. He LOVED LIFE. He never met an animal he didn't like. He ate ANYTHING as long as there was hot sauce to put on it. But, his favorite foods were alligator, ramen noodles, his wife's cornbread, key lime pie, and paçzkis (a polish holiday pastry).

Once he conquered asthma, he battled a blood clotting disorder and degenerative disc and joint disease. His energetic nature refused to keep him from working, despite the pain he was obviously in all the time. The biggest battle he ever faced was forgiving himself and releasing his own past.

On June 6, 2021, God rewarded his valiant effort and brought him home to rest.  Now, George knows he is loved. Now, he knows he is approved. Now, he has no pain. Now, he is safe to feel at peace. Now, George can finally rest.

George leaves to celebrate his memory, his wife, Janeé Allen; his aunt/second mother, Patricia White; two brothers, Norman Scott Allen and Eric Christopher Allen; three sisters, Lisa Perteete-Randolph, Tashon Osborne and Thesia Osborne; son, Martiyan Allen, and daughter, Tiyanna Allen; and a host of nieces and nephews.

There are those whom he has collected and cared for along the way - sons and daughters, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and friends...names too many to mention. These have his vision, his work ethic, his passion, and his drive.  Because of these, The Good King George will live forever.
