THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF…
Johnietta Beasley was born on July 16, 1938, in Houston, Texas. She was the fourth child of Willie and Conella Beasley who preceded her in their home goings as well as her three brothers Willie Jr, Jimmie, and Ward. The family migrated to the westside of Chicago in the 1950’s. She attended Manley High School on Chicago’s Westside. As a teenager, Johnietta entered society as a Debutant at Carey Tercentenary AME Church.
Johnietta loved everything Fashion and Style. She made sure she had the most recent copy of Fashion magazines every month. Some of her favorite magazines were Vogue, Vanity Fair and ELLE to name a few. Johnietta also enjoyed watching the local and national news to stay up to date on current events. “Johnnie” and often “JB” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was loving, caring and feisty. She was a giving person so much, that she would give her last to her loved ones whether they needed it or not. However courageous enough to hold her ground to others. Johnietta spent over 42 years with her beloved Carlton Collins Jr. who preceded her in death. Johnietta gracefully transitioned this life on April 12, 2022
