Jonathan Simon Smith, affectionately known as “Whop” and “Jonny Simon” was born on May 21, 1981 to Yvonne Smith and Ronald Early. He was the second eldest of four children. Jonathan attended Amos Alonzo Stagg Elementary School and graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1999.
After attending high school he enrolled in Coyne Institute where he graduated for heating and cooling and became a universally certified HVAC technician. From 2001-2006 Jonathan worked for various heating and air companies before landing a position with Peoples Gas in 2006. It was here that he spent the last 14 years with his last position being a UW Journeyman.
Jonathan accepted Christ at an early age and kept a close relationship with God throughout his life. Whop was fun loving, outspoken, funny, stubborn and extremely family oriented. He truly enjoyed spending time with his children and his family. He was an all around lover of music, sports and he loved to act silly and had a infectious smile. He was a great provider and would help anyone in need…for a small fee (LOL). Whop was an awesome father, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson and friend, and his presence always left a lasting impression. Jonathan’s smile, laugh and infectious spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
