In Loving Memory of Lee Henry Mansfield
Lee Henry Mansfield was born on September 3, 1936, in Parkdale, Arkansas, to Rhodie and Oscar Lee Mansfield, Sr. He was one of nine children. His parents preceded him in death, but they instilled in him the values of faith, family, hard work, and perseverance.
Lee was raised in a close-knit community and attended Union Baptist Church, where he gave his life to Christ in June 1953. There, he developed the spiritual foundation that would guide him throughout his life.
Lee later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he met and married his beloved wife, Bernice Mansfield, on November 29, 1958. To this union, five children were born. Lee and Bernice joined New Landmark Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Joseph Sylvester. He continued serving faithfully under the current pastor, Rev. Cy M. Fields, in the Brotherhood Ministry until his health declined.
A hardworking and dedicated provider, Lee devoted nearly 30 years of service to Brody's Furniture Company, where he served as a Lead before the company closed its doors. His strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment earned the respect of coworkers and supervisors alike. Following his years at Brody's Furniture, Lee continued working at LP Productions, where he helped build booths and chairs for salons until that company also ceased operations.
Outside of work, Lee found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved watching baseball, spending time at the racetrack, and enjoying spirited card games with family and friends. Whether it was a game of Spades or Tonk, Lee was always ready to play—and if you knew him well, you knew he had a reputation for "bending the rules" every now and then, which became a source of laughter and unforgettable family stories.
Lee was known for being opinionated and never afraid to speak his mind. He was honest, straightforward, and authentic—qualities that made him uniquely himself and endeared him to those who knew and loved him. Many family members and friends fondly remember the cookouts hosted at his home, where laughter, conversation, good food, and fellowship created lasting memories.
Committed to serving others, Lee volunteered alongside his siblings at the Walls Memorial CME Church Food Pantry, helping provide support and nourishment to members of the community. His willingness to help others reflected his generous spirit and compassionate heart.
Lee leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, service, love, and cherished memories. His wisdom, humor, strength, and unwavering devotion to family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in knowing that his life was well-lived, his work was well done, and his memory will continue to inspire generations to come.
