Margaret Metcalfe

October 20, 1949 — December 11, 2025

Aurora, Illinois

Margaret Metcalfe was born on October 20, 1949, in Opelika, Alabama to parents Leroy and Edna Stevens, both have preceded her in death (Dad January 1990 and Mom October 2024). She is the eldest of four siblings. Margaret Metcalfe attended and graduated from DuSable High School in 1967 before studying to be a dental hygienist at Malcolm X College. Throughout the years Margaret landed a successful career as a Billing Accountant/Analyst with companies: Better Brands Beer Distribution, EMCO (Equipment Manufacturing Company), briefly with Rock Of Ages Baptist Church, Mac Neal Hospital (also known as WaterMark) and lastly Loyola Hospital from which she retired in April 2020.

March of 1972 Margaret married Maxwelton Metcalfe and from that union two daughters were born (Tanya and Carmen Metcalfe). Though their marriage wasn’t permanent, they shared many years and raised two wonderful children. Ultimately, Maxwelton Metcalfe preceded her in death November 2022.

Margaret joined and became an active member of Rock Of Ages Church and had been a member for over 50 years leading up to her passing. During her tenure as a member, she assisted with the Culinary Team alongside her mother Edna Stevens and sister Pamela Dennis-Stevens.

Margaret had many passions in life, but being a great mother and an outstanding grandmother was definitely one of them. She made sure that she attended any and all sporting events that her children and later her grandchildren were actively involved in. She became a band mom with The Proviso West Band Team in 2007-2020 under the leadership of band director Mr. Atcher. During this time, she formed a close bond with her dear friends Desiree and Jackie. That friendship made a great impact on her and she cherished their friendship for years to come. She became an extended mom/grandmother to the band members. Lastly, Margaret was also actively involved in multiple 5K walks with her job at Loyola Hospital.

Margaret was a stickler for time. She was always ahead of the game. She stood on principle and those of us that knew her well, knew that she spoke her mind. Oftentimes, misconstrued, nonetheless she meant well, loved hard and was super loyal to her family.

Margaret made her transition December 11, 2025.

Margaret leaves behind to cherish her memories: 2 daughters: Tanya Metcalfe and Carmen Metcalfe; 5 grandchildren: Jaylen Prude, LaPortia Jordan, Kayla Peeler, Akira Peeler and Evaughn Peeler; 1 sister: Pamela Dennis-Stevens; 2 brothers: Darrell Stevens and Kevin Stevens; half sister: Annie Mae Smith; aunts: Mary Hamilton; LaMuriel Coker; Dorothy Harris; Eunice Pitts; uncles (preceded in death Jessie Harris Jr. and Robert Stevens), Garland Hamilton and Lorenzo Stevens; nieces: Jameril Johnson, Dedrionne Stevens and Jasmine Dennis; nephews: Kevin
