Richard Frederick Olds was born January 20, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the third oldest of 14 children. He was preceded in death by his parents Willis and Mary C. Olds as well as his step-mother, Nannie Olds, who raised him after the passing of Mary C. In addition, two sisters and two brothers, Bobbie Jean Wirt, Willette Chapple, Willie T. Olds and Spearman Olds also preceded him in death.
Richard confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and joined Belmont C.M.E. Church in Mason, Tennessee where the family moved after leaving Cleveland, Ohio. After serving faithfully in several ministries, his final place of worship was with The Apostolic Church of God, under the leadership of Bishop Arthur M. Brazier. Richard served there as an Elder and Chaplain of Provident Hospital, visiting the sick until his health began to fail.
He married his teenage sweetheart, Lorine Olds, who preceeded him in death. To this union were born four children: Varnell (who passed shortly after birth), Pearline Henson, Mattie M. Olds, and Richard F. Olds, Jr. After the death of Lorine, he united in matrimony with Ardelia, who also preceded him in death.
Richard loved reading. Although he did not receive a great deal of formal education, he self-educated himself and became very knowledgeable of the bible. He had a long career with Campbell Soup Company and later worked for Spiegel Catalog Company, where he retired from in 1992.
Richard will truly be missed and leaves to cherish his memory: three children – Pearline Henson, Mattie M. Olds, and Richard F. Olds, Jr. (Valeria); six grandchildren – Otha Henson, Jr, Kenneth D. Henson, Richard F. Olds, III, Latricia L. Seye (Eric), Meredith Y. Olds, and Lela C. Olds; eight great-grandchildren – Darvanesha Henson, Davon Henson, Jeanette Henson, Reagan Seye, Karsten Olds, Gavin Seye, Kailyn Olds, and Maisy Olds.
Richard is also survived by five sisters: Lorine Simms and Mary Gatewood of Chicago, IL, Ann Boyd (Nate) of Memphis, TN, Theresa Jackson of Los Angeles, CA, and Patricia Robinson of Franklin Park, NJ and five brothers: Otis Olds of Macomb, IL, Lawrence Olds, James Olds (Tonya) of Chicago, IL, and Wilbert Olds of Little Rock, AR, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
