Sylvester Davis (affectionately known as Dave or Main) was born on May 9, 1945, to Aileean Davis in Vaughan, Mississippi. Sylvester was the first of six children. He was preceded in death by his mother, Aileean D. Hollins; one sister, Marilyn Davis; and one brother, Eugene Davis. Dave loved horse racing, casinos, most sports, and dog racing back in the day. He worked most of his adult life at Unity Steel Works with LTV (Ling-Temco-Vought) Steel Company, Inc., where he retired in 2008. Some of his favorite pastimes included listening to Johnnie Taylor, Z.Z. Hill, and Tyrone Davis, along with Roland Martin commentaries. Sylvester quietly departed this life on December 12, 2025, after a long illness. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Sylvester leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Otha Phillips of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Angela Y. Parks (Kevin) of Yazoo City, MS, and Stephanie Winn (Percy) of Bentonia, MS; nieces and nephews: Nakia S. Davis; William A. Davis (Ree Ree); Stephanie A. Odumes (Lovie); Eugena Y. Diew (Timothy); Steven M. Gray, Jr.; Patrice M. Detty (Jess); Jacob G. Parks(Carmen); Tamika K. Parks (Marlon); and Antonio L. Parks. He also leaves a longtime confidant and cousin, Ronald Karl Johnson of Arizona, along with a host of other cousins and friends.
