IN LOVING MEMORY Veronica Devon Adams aka “Ronnie”

Veronica Devon Adams — affectionately known to everyone as Ronnie — was born on October 1, 1960, to the loving union of Larnell and Ceola Adams. As the middle child, Ronnie held a special place in the family. Ronnie adored her daddy, Larnell, and she never stopped being his girl — heart and soul. His passing left a tender place in her spirit that she carried quietly but faithfully.

Growing up, Ronnie wasn’t just bold — she was feisty. She liked to pick fights with the neighborhood kids, often pulling her brothers and sisters right into the middle of her battles. If something jumped off on the block, Ronnie was usually the reason — and she was usually the one finishing it. That fiery streak became one of her most unforgettable traits.

In 1975, Ronnie accepted Christ and became a faithful member of New Alpha Progressive Baptist Church under Pastor William Conley. She loved Sunday School and carried her faith with her in a simple, steady way.

A proud graduate of Hillcrest High School, Ronnie went on to begin her career at Montgomery Ward, where she worked with her usual mix of grit and no-nonsense charm.

Ronnie was a tomboy at heart — she loved being outdoors, and she loved playing softball, just like all the Adams kids who seemed to be good at every sport they touched. She also had a deep love for music. Some of her favorite artists were Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and Earth, Wind & Fire. She played their songs over and over, Ronnie didn’t just listen — she felt every note.

But the greatest joy of Ronnie’s life was her son, Alan Pierre Adams, born June 2, 1984. She truly loved Alan with everything in her. He was her pride, her heartbeat, and her reason.

After Alan’s birth, Ronnie faced a difficult and tender chapter in her life. She suffered from severe postpartum depression and ongoing mental illness — struggles that weighed heavily on her spirit. These challenges were not a reflection of her love for her son or her family, but a burden she carried quietly and bravely. Because of her condition, Ronnie spent much of her adult life in assisted-living care. Her journey was not easy, but it was real — and her family honors her strength, her fight, and the love she held in her heart even through the hardest seasons.

Ronnie also loved her family relationships. Holidays, birthdays, or just a regular weekend visit — Ronnie wanted to be part of it. She would call her big brother, her little brother, or her cousin Suzette just to check in, laugh a little, or see what everyone was doing. And in true Ronnie fashion, she was always bumming five dollars off somebody, promising she’d pay them back “as soon as the state gives me my money.” It became one of those family stories everyone remembered — a small, funny, familiar part of who she was. On August 02, 2026, Ronnie departed this earthly place to forever join her Savior in Heaven. Her memory and spirit lives on and forever missed she will always be.

Ronnie leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her story, her spirit, and the memories they shared with her.
