Obituary

Our beloved mother Dorothy Jean Young was born May 10, 1937 in Hollyspring, Mississippi to Jim Bowen and Willie Beatrice Bowen. She was the eldest of fifteen siblings.

She departed this life on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Illionios. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She grew up in the church of God in Christ, and was a devoted Christian woman. As an adult she joined the Corinthian Temple C.O.G.I.C church, under the leadership of the late Bishop Benny L. Allison and served on the usher board.

She later joined Miracle Revival Center under the leadership of Bishop WIllie J. Chambliss. Dorothy J. Young faithfully served for nearly 50 years on the pastors board and later was appointed to the motherboard. She was the oldest living member of MRC. Dorothy J. Young like millions of African Americans migrated to Chicago in the late 1950's fleeing a Jim Crow south. She lived on the south and west side with family.

During this time she met and married her late husband Frank Young Jr, and the entire family settled in Bellwood, Illinois. Dorothy became an accomplished entrepreneur starting her own in-home daycare. Dorothy’s “Old Fashioned Daycare” helped many families. She became affectionately known as "Mrs. Young" and Grandma to hundreds. Mrs. Young was a leader, beautiful and gracious, and she was the matriarch of the family.

To have known her, was to have known love. She loved her soap operas, famous chicago style food (Lucky Dog). She instilled the importance of discipline
