Georgie Cross Obituary

Missionary Georgie Mae Jackson Cross was born on March 22, 1938 in McComb, Mississippi to the union of Lawrence and Martha Allen Jackson. She was the youngest girl child out of 8 girls and 4 boys. Georgie received her education from the Mississippi School System attending Okalona Grammar School and graduating early from Liberty Rosenwald High School. She served as a faithful member of Good Hope Free Will Missionary Baptist Church until she left Mississippi. She found joy in learning and teaching about God, her family, dancing, playing her tambourine, making her famous “purnch” and cooking mentioning quite frequently that she could prepare any home cooked meal in less than 30 minutes.

At the tender age of 17, Georgie decided to move up North to Chicago with her sisters traveling with her closest sister in age, Dorothy Eunice and living with her older sister Doris. It was there that she was led by God to New Cross Temple Church of God In Christ and became a loyal life long member. There she matured as a steward of God traveling almost everywhere under the leadership of the late Bishop Moses and Dr. Priscilla Cross-Hoover. Georgie had been involved in many organizations such as the Christian Ladies Aid Society, the Sunday School Department as the Assistant Secretary, First Sunday Communion facilitator, YPWW teacher, Co Youth Coordinator, the Youth Chorale Ensemble, and the Moses Cross Sr. Memorial Choir. It was also at this time where she became employed with The Sacred Heart Sisters of Columbus Hospital and retired from the Heart Department as a Manager with 42 years of service in 2000. As God’s timing would also have it, it is around this same time when a drummer who dabbled on the organ every now and then caught her attention. On August 2, 1958 she and Nathan Cross wed under a candlelit ceremony. Together they traveled all over the United States in their multiple exquisite cars in style and fashion. In 1979 they were blessed with their only child, Lisa Gale. Until 2000, they always were the trio with Georgie and Lisa having matching outfits specifically made for them. They walked down many fashion show runways with their matching poses. This loved flowed onto her grandchildren being available for almost every moment in their lives.

Georgie truly lived the song she always sung for years “ I will trust in The Lord until the day I die”.

On Wednesday, January 9, 2024 just 1 day and 4 years after her closest sister, Dorothy Eunice was called home, God called Georgie into His arms. She was proceeded in death by her Mother, Martha, her Father, Lawrence, and all of her 12 siblings Horace, Morris, LJ, Ethel, Katie B., Gena Mae, Edith, Doris, Annie Laura, Laura Leola, Dorothy Eunice, and Wayde. She leaves to cherish all her beautiful memories: her Husband, Deacon Nathan Cross of 65 years, her daughter Lisa (Malakhi), 4 grandchildren Brooklyn, Kj, Michael, and David, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
