John Brewer Obituary

With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Mr. John "JB" Brewer on February 7, 2024. Born on June 16, 1936, John was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, known for his charming personality and zest for life. Preceding him in death were his parents Earl and Lula (Macklin) Brewer, and his siblings Leonard aka LA, Robert, Earl Jr., James Lee, Theophilus Brewer, and Minnie Ethel Brewer-Lewellen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ophelia (Lanier) Brewer, whom he married in a beautiful ceremony in 1955, and his children Wilbert Brewer (Lee), Barbara Norment (Ivan), Curtis Brewer (Cynthia), Searcy Gardner (Albert), Jonathan Brewer (Penny), and Dwayne Brewer (Meloney).

Renowned as a doting grandfather, John profoundly influenced the lives of his many grandchildren including Shawn Norment, Eugene Norment, Nickia Greene, Natasha Simpson, Ivan Norment, Jonathan Johnson, Damion Brewer, Gerald Brewer, Chanice Brewer, James Ross III, Tierra Brown, Clorissa Medina, Corey Brewer, Kenneth Brewer, Cameron Brewer, Searcy Lovett, Brittany Lovett, Kimberly Lovett, Daquawn Bruce and Logan Brewer. Also, he leaves a legacy of love to his niece Earnestine Qualls. John's lifelong commitment to family resonated through all aspects of his life.

After moving to Chicago, IL in 1959, he proved his mettle as a hardworking family man by starting a fulfilling career at Bud's Painting Company after many years of working for Hostess. He was known for his passion for fishing and working on cars, hobbies that he loved to share with his children and grandchildren.

John's memory will continue to live on through his extended family, which includes great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. His passing creates a void that can never be filled, but the love he shared, and the memories we made will forever remain etched in our hearts. We celebrate John's life and accomplishments, and while he will be missed, his spirit will continue to guide us and be a source of strength for all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
