Minnie Turner Obituary

Obituary

Minnie Louise Turner was truly one of a kind, she was deeply loved, and will be immensely missed. Minnie was born on October 2, 1952 in Kansas City, MO to the delight of her late mother, Earthaleen Turner. She departed this earthly life in the comfort of her home on Sunday, September 9, 2018, after dealing with ongoing health issues. Minnie was second oldest to five children, John Turner, Earlin Turner, Vickie Bernard and Tommy Banks who preceded her in death. At a young age, Minnie took on the nickname “Sue” and was also affectionately called “Baby Sister” by her special aunt, Katherine Jackson and other loved ones.

Minnie received her early education at Benjamin Banneker before moving to Chicago, IL where she attended Forestville High School, Malcolm X College and Dawson Technical Institute.

Minnie met the late Arnold Johnson and three children were born from this union. She accepted Christ at a very early age and rededicated herself alongside her son Arnold Turner during a joyous ceremony held at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. She often shared fond stories of her children, so it was no surprise she took honor in celebrating this momentous occasion with one of them. Minnie worked tirelessly to raise her children and made many sacrifices while holding three jobs simultaneously. She spent over 15 years working for the City of Chicago, Department of Human Services, before moving to the Chicago Police Department where she worked in Field Inquiry and where she would retire in March 2004. As a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Minnie Turner served as a Past Worthy Matron of Myra Chapter #132, of IL.

Minnie loved decorating, crafting, party planning and spending time with her family. She was a fiercely devoted mother, a doting grandmother, a loving and caring sister and cousin and a loyal friend; always thinking of others first. To know her was to love her. She always welcomed those in need. She had a heart of gold that was so pure. She was quick witted and charismatic, she loved sharing funny stories about her children.

Minnie leaves to cherish her memories; her children, Carmen Turner, Arnold (Angel) Turner, and Andrea Williams, six grandchildren, Raven Wrightsell, Turon Turner, Arianna Turner, Trevor Turner, Jurnee Williams and Tyler Williams who preceded her in death, two nieces, Tisha Smith and the late Tesheria Redmon, two nephews, Terrance Bernard and Omar Redmon and her godson, Jamie Enge, who she doted on and affectionately called her “Road Dog”. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of family, friends and her special sister, Lena Enge.
