Welcome to the memorial page for

Charles West Wimberly Jr.

May 11, 1952 ~ September 13, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old

God we come to give you all the glory because you saw fit to unite Charles West Wimberly Sr, and Margaret Thomas in 1948. On May 11,1952 this union brought forth, Charles West Wimberly Jr., their third child. Charles, who was nicknamed “Chuckie” by his family and friends, was a very intelligent young man. He attended Lane Tech High School, one of the top high schools in Chicago. He then attended Wilbert Wright Jr. College.

Very early in Chuckie‘s life, actually at the age of 10, he was introduced to a little girl in the neighborhood named Helen Robinson. His infectious smile immediately won Helen over. Despite multiple “chastisements” from his mother, Chuckie kept sneaking out the house to see Helen. They were inseparable from that first introduction. They married at the age of 18. Chuckie was determined to take care of his new bride, so he joined the US Marine Corp (USMC). He served in this branch from 1970 to 1976 when Chuckie received an honorable discharge. Through this union four sons were born, DeAndre, Tracy (Allison), Damian, and Darryl (Jennifer). If there is one thing Chuckie loved, it was his wife and sons. To ensure his family was well cared for, over the years, he worked as a postal carrier for the US Post Office, as a driver for Greyhound, the City of Chicago, and as a doorman for 199 E. Lakeshore Drive. Chuckie was admired for the strong love he carried in his heart for his wife by many of his nephews. They used him as a prime example for how a man should take care of his wife. He was often called upon by them for advice.

Chuckie was such a respected fixture in the lives of not only his family, but friends and neighbors alike. They regularly called upon him for haircuts. Chuckie found great pleasure in cutting hair. It was one of his many self-taught skills. He also, like his dad, enjoyed fixing things. He was a regular “mister fix it.” No matter if the problem was with a house or a car, Chuckie could figure it out. Chuckie worked until he became too ill to work.

Chuckie, who has always loved the Lord, and whose life exemplified that, knew the importance of dedicating his life to Him. He found the strength to dedicate his life even though he was extremely ill. Helen, with her dedication, and pure love for her husband proudly nursed and stood by his side around the clock. She graciously did this task until God said “Helen, job well done,” and He lovingly carried Chuckie home. Chuckie answered God’s call on September 13, 2017. Though Helen was reluctant to let her love go, she surrendered because she knew he would be in the best hands imaginable, and that one day she would unite with Chuckie again.

Although this is only a glimpse into Chuckie’s life, his love, his laughter, his facial expressions, and teachings will live on in the hearts and lives of so many. Chuckie leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of 47 years. Four loving sons, three grandchildren, six biological siblings, Deborah (Joseph) Sanders, Phyllis Nash, Stephanie Wimberly (deceased), Milton (Mable) Wimberly, Milledge (Henry) Caldwell, Vondra Wimberly. An extended family of Robinsons who were so dear to him, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, and friends.
